The average temperature all year is 17ºC, and the monthly average temperatures during June, July, August and September surpass 21ºC. Winters are mild, and temperatures do not go below 10ºC.
Another important fact is the few showers, with a rate below 300 l/m2. a year.
Aridity here is a main factor, bearing in mind that the sun shines 320 days and 3000 hours a year.
This wonderful climate gives us the chance to enjoy the Mar Menor all year long. The water temperature is closely connected to the atmospheric temperature, as the mass of water is relatively small for the atmospheric scale.
These circumstances make the thermal inertia in the lagoon lower than the one in the Mediterranean. In the cold months the water temperature reaches 10ºC, whereas it goes up to 30ºC in August.
In certain areas of the coast line, as they are quite shallow, sometimes temperatures reach 18ºC and even 36ºC in summer. On the other hand, the waters are evenly distributed, and the difference between areas is under 1-2ºC.
Water salinity levels reach from 42 0/00 to 47 0/00, as opposed to the 36-38 0/00 in the Mediterranean. All year long we can find slightly higher values in September - October and some minimums from January to May.
